Coming up Monday 30th June – Friday 4th July is Bendigo’s premier regional event, the Bendigo Bank JT and AMT. The Bendigo Tennis Association are hosting a number of events in 2014 for both junior and senior age groups. Many of these tournament carry national ranking points and prize money.
It was also recently announced that government funding of $5.2 million has been allocated to the Bendigo Tennis club. In partnership with the City of Greater Bendigo, the Bendigo Tennis Association and the local community, Tennis Australia has developed a strong project vision. The overall amount is $7 million and the government is funding $5 million to bring the project to fruition.
Some of these plans include:
New show court facilities, with spectator seating for 900 people to enhance the ability of the Bendigo Regional Tennis Centre to attract and maintain regional and national tennis events.
Construction of a redeveloped tennis events and community hub building, including:
- Multi-purpose function space for active after school programs and community recreation
- New player change rooms.
- Community accessible meeting spaces
- Development of two MLC Tennis Hot Shots courts to grow junior tennis participation
- Redevelopment and upgrade of four courts to plexicushion in line with the surface at the Australian Open Grand Slam event.
